The Alliance for Equality Opportunity in Education (AEOE), a coalition of African American organizations, is hosting a victory celebration to honor its efforts in helping to increase enrollment of African American students at UCLA for the 2007 school year. The number of African American students entering the UCLA freshman class has more than doubled in one year—from 96 in 2006 to 210 in 2007.
During the celebration, AEOE will present its 2007-2008 strategic plan for continued vigilance, knowledge and support of the African American community to reception attendees on Thursday, Sept. 13, 6 - 8 p.m. In addition to the L.A. Urban League, AEOE member organizations include: African American Collaborative, Assembly Majority Leader Karen Bass-47th District, Assembly Member Mervyn Dymally-52nd District, Brotherhood Crusade, Community Call to Action and Accountability, Ecumenical Congress, First AME Church (FAME), Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, NAACP Los Angeles, Queen’s Historical Society, Southern Christian Leadership Conference of LA, The Nation of Islam, UCLA African Student Union, and UCLA Black Alumni Association.
