The Los Angeles Lakers announced today that East West Bank is a new sponsor for the 2007-08 season. With the new sponsorship, each Lakers regular season and playoff home game Tip-Off will be “Brought to you by” East West Bank. The Tip-Off Promotion is expected to provide East West Bank with both in-arena and on-air exposure. “I look forward to a unique and rewarding experience for both East West Bank and the Lakers,” stated East West Bank Senior VP, Emily Wang. She added, “Both sides have put a great amount of effort in making this happen, and I hope this will turn into a long-term marketing partnership.”
“We are thrilled to have East West Bank join the Los Angeles Lakers family of sponsors” said Tim Harris, the Lakers Senior Vice President of Business Operations. “We’re especially pleased to be able to integrate East West Bank into a game feature, particularly one as significant as the opening tip-off.”
East West Bank will also take part in the Lakers community efforts this season. As the Presenting Sponsor of the Lakers’ A Season of Giving program, they will directly support various holiday events such as the Thanksgiving Celebration, Fishing Trip, Holiday Party, and Christmas Day Game and Lunch.
During the Thanksgiving Celebration, the Lakers have either served meals or organized turkey and grocery giveaways to provide families with ingredients to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Past recipients of this Thanksgiving event include organizations such as A Place Called Home, P.A.T.H. (People Assisting the Homeless), Dollarhide Senior Center, and US Vets. This year’s event will take place at the Roy W. Roberts II/Watt-Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club.
Since 2002, the Los Angeles Lakers have teamed up with the 976-TUNA Youth Fishing Program to bring homeless children out on the water for a fun day of fishing and to learn about the environment. The children first enjoy a morning at the Long Beach Aquarium visiting the touch tank, then later embark on their trip out to sea where they learn how to fish from 976-TUNA’s volunteers. During the fishing adventure, the children receive a surprise visit from Santa Claus, the Laker Girls and Lakers players and coaches such as Brian Cook, Chris Mihm, and Brian Shaw, who board the boat with presents and help teach the children how to fish. This year’s fishing trip will once again depart from Long Beach.
In the past, the Lakers have hosted various groups of children for the annual Lakers Holiday Party, ranging from children in foster care to members of the Salvation Army Red Shield Youth & Community Center to children with a parent serving overseas. They are given the opportunity to take photos and get autographs, as well as play interactive games such as pop-a-shot, foosball, and skeeball with the Lakers players and Laker Girls. After having a special holiday lunch, the children receive goodie bags filled with Lakers items and toys. This year’s event will take place at the Lakers practice facility.
When the Lakers have a home game scheduled on Christmas Day, the team will traditionally host a group of children from Eggleston Boys Home, providing them with a catered holiday meal and tickets to watch the Lakers take on a notable opponent.
Since 2000, it has been a Lakers tradition to celebrate the holidays with this annual campaign, providing thousands of children and adults with a happy holiday season. “Contributing to our community has also been an important mission of East West Bank. We applaud the Lakers’ long-term commitment to the community and are very proud to be the sponsor for the Lakers’ A Season of Giving campaign,” said Ms. Wang.
