Former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland and rapper Ludacris will be among the millions of shoppers participating in a fundraising event for World AIDS Day, on December 1. Khiel, a beauty product manufacturer is sponsoring the yearly event, which takes twenty percent of all proceeds to put toward the Youth AIDS initiative, focusing on stamping out the disease around the world. That day, Southlanders will be able to participate at four locations from Santa Monica to Costa Mesa. “Our partnership with YouthAIDS allows us, as a company, to participate and contribute to the larger Kiehl’s community that extends far beyond the doorways of our stores, and help make a difference in the worldwide efforts toward AIDS awareness and prevention,” said Khiel President Chris Salgardo.

“We are honored to partner with a global organization such as YouthAIDS, and to offer a portion of our net sales to contribute to their never-ending fight to stem the spread of AIDS amongst the children of the world.”

The World Health Organi-zation established World AIDS Day in 1988, providing governments, national AIDS programs, faith organizations, community organizations, and individuals with an opportunity to raise awareness and focus attention on the global AIDS epidemic. An estimated 38.6 million people worldwide are living with HIV. In the U.S., more than one million people are living with the virus and there are approximately 40,000 new cases of HIV every year. African Americans account for more than 49 percent of the more than 1 million AIDS cases that have been diagnosed, though they make up only 13 percent of the population.

Over the past decade, the fervent support of HIV/AIDS organizations has been at the heart of Kiehl’s philanthropic efforts, said company officials.

“Kiehl’s partnership with YouthAIDS began in 2001 and has gained momentum over the years with the launch of special products to further raise money and awareness for the cause. In 2002 and 2005, Kiehl’s reintroduced the perennial customer favorites, Eucalyptus Bath and Shower Liquid Body Cleanser and Grapefruit Hand & Body Cleanser, respectively, in which all profits from sales are donated to the YouthAIDS initiative.

“Since 2001 Kiehl’s programs have contributed in excess of $400,000 to YouthAIDS. By raising both awareness and funds, Kiehl’s aims to make a significant impact on the number of HIV/AIDS cases contracted by youth all over the world.”
