He’s considered one of the greatest rappers to hold the mic. KRS-One, who proclaims that real Hip Hop is not played on the radio, brings his signature style and lyrics to The Rhythm Lounge in Long Beach on Friday at 8pm. Tickets are $18.00.

120607_krsoneBorn Lawrence Anthony Parker, KRS-One is often credited by critics and other hip hop artists as epitomizing the “essence” of an MC. BET recently honored the rapper with the 2007 ‘I am Hip Hop Icon” Award .

KRS ONE’s latest album project “Hip Hop Lives” (produced by Marley Marl) is a testament to KRS’s commitment to the preservation and transference of Hip Hop from one generation to another. His latest collaboration in large part was due to the title’s apparent response to Nas’ 2007 release Hip Hop Is Dead, and for the pair’s legendary beef.

KRS ONE is planning the release of his third self-published book entitled “The Gospel of Hiphop”-a teacher’s manual and study-guide for students and apprentice of Hip Hop’s culture in January 2008. “The Gospel of Hiphop approaches Hip Hop spiritually as well as culturally. It outlines a spiritual code of conduct capable of assisting Hiphoppas toward increased health, love, awareness and wealth. We realized long ago that in order to truly preserve Hip Hop we were going to have to preserve the Hip Hop community with an understanding of Hip Hop beyond entertainment” says KRS.
