LA County brings awareness during “child support awareness” month
The Los Angeles County Child Support Services Department (CSSD) has created an array of community outreach programs during August to educate the community about child support.
The annual statewide observance, or “Child Support Awareness Month” (CSAM) is designed to build awareness about child support by highlighting its importance to families and recognizing the professionals who are dedicated to collecting support. The community outreach includes a free workshop on child support issues for elected officials, churches, media, and community organizations.
L.A. County’s 2008 theme is “Working Toward a Brighter Tomorrow for Every Child” and will co-sponsor events with community-based organizations and government agencies such as the Los Angeles County Office of Education, the Women, Infant, and Children program (WIC), the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department and local schools. The L.A. County CSSD carries 451,000 cases and collected an astounding $495 million in support collected for children and families within the past year, making it the largest locally administered child support agency in the country.
This Saturday, the Department will co-sponsor five events around the community.
Three community fairs will be held at 8:30, 9am, and 10am respectively. The first fair will be held at Centro Maravilla, 4716 E. Cesar Chavez Ave., E. Los Angeles, 90022, the second will be at the Compton WIC, located at 130 E. Compton Blvd., Compton, 90221, and the third will take place at Adventure Park in Whittier CA.
