As an intellectual, I am always thinking and rethinking my positions on things that are important to me.
I am constantly evaluating my own behavior and my reactions to people, places and things.
As an independent thinker, I make my own decisions where my behavior is concerned.
That's why I have no qualms about doing the things I do, even when they appear to be contradictory to people who don't know me.
For example, some of the morons who respond to my writing with ignorance and negativity are awed and dumbfounded when I come at them with raw and uncut vitriol. From their perspective, I am supposed to be ever the diplomat, taking in their crap with noble tolerance.
But those just aren't my sensibilities.
If you insult me in any way, I will return the insult and do so in a manner of my own choosing, including cursing you out and insulting you if that's what makes my day. You don't get to decide that your insults are any less (decorum) than my cursing and retaliatory insults.
And, frankly, I am sick to my stomach of people deciding that their own sensibilities are more important than another person's sensibilities.
We see this when people not only disagree with a person, but actually cast aspersions on the person's character based on the disagreement. They certainly have the right to do that, but the person whose character is in question also has the right to retaliate with more aspersions, or worse.
We see this also with fake Christians who send their insipid Jesus Chain Letters via email, but repel from the heat when someone lets them have it. Jesus wouldn't be sending emails threatening hell and damnation for failure to forward and if you aren't a Jesus follower, you shouldn't have to be subjected to them. But even if you are, you still might decide to send some heat to the losers who clog up your email box.
Their sensibilities allow them to send the emails without regard to the people who may be offended, so why wouldn't the sensibilities of others allow them to curse out the Jesus freaks?
Personally, I never feel any compunction about serving up stupid people and will never apologize for offending anyone, because I am profoundly offended by adult stupidity. But, sadly, some people are more offended by me calling someone an asshole than the person spreading vicious lies and hatred without even a pretense of having a basis.
Sure, my responses to some of the stupid people who email me or post to sites can be rife with profanity.
And, certainly, I know that some people focus on my curse words more than a bonehead or loser's profane and persistent disrespect of myself and others, but according to my own sensibilities, launching disrespectful missives to begin with is profane.
And, isn't the abject lack of respect the primary reason why the real thinkers find it hard to tktk?
These assholes are profane, while some people focus on my profanity.
And since it's clear that the assholes won't stop their disrespect, I'm clear about either handing them their asses or ignoring them.
Because of those morons, it's sometimes hard for many of us to enjoy lively exchange of ideas. The morons interrupt with ignorance, negativity and personal attacks.
But it's not just the responses to my column.
We see the same confusion, stupidity and weakness in our people in general, which is why we have Negroes who now celebrate Stepinfetchit as a hero and call Bill Clinton the first Black president, yet question Barack Obama's Blackness.
It's also why we now have Black women who claim that the Civil Rights Movement was designed to oppress them and who will support McCain because they are still angry that Hillary Clinton got her ass handed to her.
And it's also why many Black Christians decided to support George W. Bush because of his Christian propaganda, even though he is a dimwit and a warmonger and had nothing good for Black people. Many of them will also stand with John McCain, who is clearly a carbon copy of our current Dimwit-in-Chief.
Kwame Toure, formerly known as Stokely Carmichael, said "Capitalism will come to confuse us and cause us to concentrate on the form and so miss the essence." Luther Campbell said "People are so worried about what it looks like, they don't know what it really is."
Many of us are such poor communicators, that we don't know how to accept divergent views. Instead, we focus on trying to convince the other person that they are wrong and we are right. Trust me, this method will ALWAYS fail.
As a nation, and particularly as a people, we are worried about the wrong thing.
That's why I now focus on working with children to serve my community. Even when they demonstrate some of the goofy behavior we see with adults, at least they are children and have a chance to be influenced and changed. They are still growing.
When I do encounter the goofy behavior of adults, I don't always take the high road.
Sometimes, the goofy behavior of adults enrages me and I curse. But I sharply disagree with the inane idea that my curse words are more profane than an asshole who disrespects people based on a divergence of thoughts and ideas. That's disgusting and stupid.
Those are my sensibilities and they make sense to me.
