Los Angeles top gospel artists will gather on Saturday, April 14, to salute Stan Lee, a legendary director, writer, and arranger, for his decades-long contributions to the music ministry.

The tribute will begin at 7 p.m., at the Church of the Living God, 9800 South Western Avenue in Los Angeles. Bishop Harry Hendricks is the host pastor.

"Stan Lee is among LA's finest, most skillful and consummate directors and we want to give him his flowers while he can still smell them," said the Rev. Sammy Gray, event chairperson.

"In addition to founding the renowned Stan Lee Ensemble, he has directed several choirs in this area as well as many National Gospel Music Workshop of America choirs while serving with the late Rev. James Cleveland.

"Stan continues to be highly sought-after to perform at special events throughout the greater Los Angeles basin," said the Rev. Gray.

Performers at the tribute include Dr. Rodena Preston and the GMWA Choir, D.J. Rogers, Edna Tatum, Henry Jackson, Sherwood Sledge, and the LA Gospel Messengers directed by the Rev. Quincy Fielding.

Lee began directing at the age of 14 and over the years, he has managed choirs at Church of the Living God, St. Paul Baptist Church, True Witnesses of Hartford, CT and the Grammy-nominated Voices of Cornerstone. In 1971, he organized his namesake ensemble that recorded five albums and launched the careers of noted artists Cheryl Lynn, Michael Sutton, and Zedrick Turnbough.
