Hello World, if you all don't know, I will allow you the reader a view of my inner self in its truest form. Or I should say my conscious attempt at presenting my truest self. "Right or Wrong", I am trying to present my secrets to the world in an attempt to inspire you. Most of us will not speak of ourselves in this fashion nor will they be as candid. I say this so as to prepare you for what you'll discover within me, and yourself, not just in this article but in all of my future writings as well.
President elect Barack Obama is a symbol of recovery for humanity! In association to the horrid events that have crippled race relations within all cultures that exist within America, the apology has been made within sixty plus percent of his voters being of Caucasian decent. It is now the responsibility of persons of African American decent to respond in a fashion of acceptance. Fortunately our 44th president is as qualified as any person could be to lead our country. It just so happens that his race allows historical references to Slavery, Jim Crow and Discrimination to be understood as a wrong against past humanity and the bravery of present humanity to accept that and create a positive future!
In 1991, the woman who I refer to as mother, kissed me for the first time in public while out to dinner at the "Sizzler" restaurant in Fresno, CA. That moment was difficult because most of the patron's had facial expressions that appeared negative, possibly because Dana, my mother, is Caucasian and I am African American. That was my first outing with my then new foster family. Before then, I did not have a meaningful relationship with any Caucasian people outside of teachers and coaches. My first negative experience with a Caucasian person came when I was in the fourth grade while standing out front of "Target" selling candy for school. I asked this man if he would like to buy a candy bar, he raised his hand and struck me on the left side of my neck! The pain was sharp and shocking; I thought he raised his hand with positive intent. When the security guard arrived, the guy had already driven off! I remember being upset because I allowed myself to be vulnerable, and not because he was White.
I chose that memory because at age nine, I knew that all White people were not racist or cruel. Yet those types of actions are not always summed up as isolated occurrences, unassociated with race. Truthfully, I'm glad that I cannot recall my attackers' facial features because in years past he would have suffered consequences in a fashion considered a hate crime. Even more so my views associated with race relations would have been skewed. Now, society has the ability to dwell within a state were negative occurrences will not draw an immediate conclusion; that all negative altercations between different ethnicities are racially charged.
So, my question is this, starting now, can people of all ethnic backgrounds socialize in a fashion where negative assumptions of race, will not be the cause of ill well?
Example, the next job you apply for or the next promotion you seek; if your qualifications are above standard and you still do not obtain that goal, would you consider it to be your race or your personality?
I challenge us (meaning all people, regardless of ethnicity), to live a mind state that excludes negative assumptions of race and believe that all of man kind will do the same. This will make our plight within the next four years to be truly obtainable. That plight being, economic stability, racial equality and the end of terrorism.
