WARNING: SINCE SOME VOICES FELT THE NEED TO TARGET A SMALL GROUP WITH HATE LEGISLATION AND OTHERS DECIDED TO BLINDLY LEGALIZE SAID LEGISLATION AND THE TARGETS OF THE LEGISLATION NOW BLAME A DIFFERENT GROUP FOR THEIR OWN DISORGANIZED DEFENSE AGAINST SAID LEGISLATION, THE LANGUAGE HERE IS SHARP ENOUGH HERE TO TRY AND CUT THROUGH ALL OF THIS BULLs*#t. You’ve been warned.
Why should we care?
Gays didn’t care enough to be tightly organized for this battle. Gays didn’t reach out to Black and Latino communities in depth to make their position clear. They didn’t outline the possible legal ripples clear enough to voters nor did they have the courage, before the elections, to protest the Mormon Church and Focus on the Family for their hypocrisy for backing such a bill.
Religious followers who voted for it on “moral” grounds stuck their heads in the ignorant sand, took the easy way out, denied the existence of much needed tolerance within the walls of their Faiths and, once again, proved how dense and silly religious motives can be drawn by mob rule.
…worse still… I believe that the rest of us decided to be intellectually lazy.
So why should we care? Okay, here we go………..but it ain’t gonna be pretty!
The greatest lie ever to bounce over state border lines is that this has always been a Christian nation and, even when regionally established, its Christian roots were always tolerant.
Not even counting the great Native American nations, the colonies were anything but tolerant. As was the fashion in those days, as soon as you got a small lil’ faith based hamlet of your own, you started to banish, persecute and kill non-believers. A Puritan (Roger Williams) who wanted to maintain pragmatic ties to the Anglican Church was banished from a Massachusetts colony early on. Indeed, much of religion then was still consumed by undereducated zealots who eventually reached back to their Catholic-Reformation roots and pulled ye’ olde witch trials out of their asses… All up and down the coast the colonies had laws against other faiths. Jefferson spoke directly of some of the laws of Virginia in his State Papers.
Add that to murdering many Native people that never declared war first, indenturing fellow Christians and, of course, slavery and, well, you got some STRAIGHT BULLs*#t! Or humans being humans. Not overtly pious or extraordinarily Christian…but human.
Which is probably why Religion is protected in the Constitution…and we are supposed to be protected from it as well!
JAWS OF ASSES
No they can’t “make you” marry them in your church. Nor can they make you teach about gayness in Sunday school. It’s about that Constitution thingy again. Think of it this way…is there a law in the land that could force the KKK to preach that we are all equal human beings?
Freedom of speech. Freedom of religion.
It’s why I’m not against Mormons having ignorant and racist bile in their tenets (I’m against the sentiments but not their right to hold them but more of that later)….their insured freedoms, in turn, insure your freedoms. But see, some of you like the “change my religion” mythology because it was a convenient cover to vote towards your bias. “I’m against gay marriage because it would make me change MY faith.”
Two people being married or not can’t make you change s*#t. However, you then have to admit to a streak of intolerance within your faith--which is your right. But you can’t have it both ways.
You are either of a Faith which is intolerant of the marriage of two people, who probably will make no goddamned difference in your life, or you are not.
The thing of it is, is that, as far as my limited mind can tell, the Bible doesn’t speak against Gay marriage, but in a small way it speaks against a hint of the act of homosexual f#cking. But it also speaks against murder, ham, planting different crops next to one another, women entering a church without cover, comes with 3 different sets of the Ten Commandments and, my favorite, frets upon Onanism.
The latter now means jacking off but it was originally about Onan disobeying instructions to impregnate his sister-in-law and “pulling out” before ejaculation. For this God directly killed him. That’s right, for practicing what would later be something close to Natural Family Planning (aka “the rhythm method”) sanctioned by the entire Catholic Church, Onan was personally hammered by God. Because God, especially when it came to kids, didn’t cede bodily power to any individual.
Things changed. Especially when folk started to figure out that famine, disease, war and over-all human discomfort levels could have something to do with regional overpopulation.
And here’s another lil gem…
"And it was said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of dismissal'; but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the cause of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery." (Matt 5:31-32, NASB) -Jesus Christ
And another… And some Pharisees came to Him, testing Him, and saying, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause at all?" And He answered and said, "Have you not read, that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ' For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh'? Consequently they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to give her a certificate of divorce and send her away?" He said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart, Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way. And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery." (Matt 19:3-9) -Jesus Christ
Since there are far more folk getting’ divorced (than gays gettin’ hitched) and then consecrating the “new” marriage by f#cking, you’d think Churches would wanna outlaw THAT! You know putting a stop to this kinda whore factory of unclean women (I like how Yeshua lays it all on the female…it’s really very pimpish). Okay stop laughing. Any church trying to outlaw divorce would get slammed and emptied…straight up! I don’t wanna start a theological world war but I’m trying to point out how a biblical gimp such as myself can muster enough material to illustrate how we “fuzzy” up some things in the Bible in order to fit a predominate and Politically Correct course.
DID YES MEAN NO OR YES BUT NO OR NO BUT MAYBE…? WHAT THE F#CK?
And while I’m here, think about the ramifications of a group of Faith that would lie to you about the existence of a bill and the consequences of its failure in order to defeat a pre-existing situation. Did no mean Yes? Or Maybe? Was yes for or against the proposition? It was confusing for a reason. The devil is in the details.
I mean how many times did Martin Luther King Jr. have to lie to anyone in order to offer the ‘ole “we are all God’s children” argument? I mean, you have a right to be against Gays, Blacks, Chinese, cells phones, whatever, but why not simply say it? Because being intolerant is supposed to be un-Christian so, they demonize gays and then tell you that in order to be pro-Christian you have to be anti-Gay. Okay but let me ask all the Christian folk out there… Do you mean to tell anyone that out of ALL of the Christians who have changed the world and kept the faith alive, not one…one…was gay?
And by the way Ted Haggard is just one recent dick head (pun intended) but he doesn’t count because he’s been “cured”.
Still, the very human issue is swept under the rug. But doesn’t then that make Church leaders, who would use methods of literal deception, a lying bunch of sonsofbitches? Yes…yes it does. Then what would that make the people who, knowing better, still follow such flawed and devil-like logic?…I’ll let y’all decide but here’s my real rant…
All you Obama loving, great day having, history sitting through-in Negroes, by voting Yes on 8, connected your ballot to the efforts a man who has lead filthy attacks against this President-elect. James Dobson. More of this in a moment but I have one last query in this section…
According to numbers of the US Government and a John Hopkins University survey, between 30,000 and 600,000 human beings are dead because of the Iraqi war so why in the f#ck should anyone listen to a Christian (or Christian based) body which would ask people to look past ending that situation and focus on GAY MARRIAGE? I mean s*#t…millions were spent to twist peoples heads about who’s screwing who while fresh corpses are still showing up on the shores of a war that is costing us between 4 and 7 billion a month: Any Christian body which saw fit to support this war either in voice or silence and now would take action against any population of folk because they exist should be considered cowardly bodies with weak tenets of ritual exercises rather than practitioners of a Faith of Courage as exhibited and set forth by Jesus.
POINTING GAY FINGERS
“This campaign was very white….it was also very gay…but I think it’s really important that we take away the idea that this initiative (won) because of the Black vote. That’s simply inaccurate.” --Rick Jacobs, leader of The Courage Campaign and former head of Howard Dean’s campaign for President, on KPFK’s John Wiener’s 4 o’clock Report.
There is a tradition in manhood which stems from primary school and extends…until death. We will sit around and tell stories about sex. Sometimes lies, the truth, good and bad but sooner or later it becomes the story telling itself that is the vibe. We rarely use names and if we do, it’s framed as someone long ago. Turning the “object”, so to speak, of the situation to be about how you got down. The adventure. Five guys could be lying about the most depraved and demented sex they’ve had but if a sixth man chimes in with… ”Yeah that’s just like this dude and I…”
The conversation will stop. Everybody will grab their s*#t and go home.
You need to realize something. The idea of homosexual sex repels straight men. It’s not simply uncool or kinky but repelling. Now, no one’s gonna ask you to leave the basketball court (especially if you’re good). No one has the right to put their hands on you or to discriminate against you or to dehumanize you in anyway. It should be no one’s business. But it is indeed the “sex act” that truly separates. Except for that fact and the cultural affects which can dominate any section of society, nothing else is different between Gay and Straight. Nothing. And herein lies the basic flaw in articulating your Prop 8 position because, to quote Mr. Oxy Moron, “It’s a big ass nothing!”
Take a Black man and a White man in identical black suits and put them 50 yards away. Who is gay? Who went to college? Who has a Nevada driver’s license? Who is a crip? Rapper? Doctor?...now Who is Black?
Without any cultural affects all identifiers melt away…save one. Just standing there, a man’s color can be identified fifty yards away. Anything else is just guessing.
This is the line Black voters see every time they’re told that they are in the same “pot” as gays.
You need to know that, when you are demonized for being gay, the attackers subtly use the sex act as the bludgeon - mostly because we straight cats have a biased predisposition which, as I said, can be buttressed by fuzzy religious affirmations. Now Imma assume that some of your ranks absolutely understand this but I still feel that you don’t see that, when the hyper-testosterone driven worlds of Black and Latino male straightness are told that their son’s idea of sex is threatened, you have to argue past the idea of the act. In other words, what we all have in common is more important than what is thought of as the difference between “gay” or “straight”.
Saying, “We are the same as you…” isn’t true and it’s pretty goddamned lame but that’s not all your fault. When it comes to relationships, none of us are the same but all of us are the same. But this argument would work a bit better…
“We don’t care what you teach your son. We’re trying to make it day to day and some punkasses from Colorado and Utah are all up in our business!”
Everyone can identify with handlin’ their business without intrusion.
But when this comes up…
“We also love and honor and respect just like any adult couple”…
Says who? The sentence itself is subjective and no married man I have spoken with regarding this subject is convinced that he and his wife are in the same place as gay partners. As a single man even my opinions are taken to task when talking with married men. And yet there’s more of a bridge between me, a straight bachelor and them than a gay man. They feel that at least they were straight bachelors once.
Of course right about now you’re gonna say that that preceding paragraphs are uniquely sexist. They are. But that’s based on the Sapphic lie told to us everyday…which then makes female crossover sex more palatable than male. From images of pole dancers tonguing to millions of pics, vids, ring tones and music videos, woman on woman just ain’t the taboo it used to be. Conversely, the only place you’d see a Broke Back mountain strip scene is in a world far from the Saturday night booty shake. No it ain’t balanced nor is it fair. And you’re goddamned right it’s simple minded but that’s your problem…you think that the issue is anything but that. Especially since that ain’t the fight. Why is this important? Because it’s what you miss when you talk to a 30 year old about it being about civil rights. You’re being demonized and singled out. Why? THAT’S the issue. I know in the world of academia and logic all of this is easily refuted. But that ain’t who you’re dealing with. You’re dealing with folk who work possibly two or three jobs and don’t have the inclination or time to reflect upon what many view as “your choice.” Again, I know it’s unfair, but your argument can’t be;
“Okay you’re stupid and a homophobe and I’m gonna tell you some facts which will then make you smart and not afraid of gays.”
See THAT is a dumbass strategy but one I’ve been hearing from my beloved left wing radio ever since Election Day. This is another one…
“This is just like when Blacks and Whites couldn’t marry!”
Maybe. I wasn’t around then, but that’s not the argument the religious right was coming with…here’s what they were saying;
“If Gays can be married…your religion, your life and your children’s lives will be f#cked up!” How should you have answered? I would’ve started with this:
“James Dobson, of Focus on the Family infamy, has attacked Senator Obama for “deliberately distorting” the Bible and "dragging biblical understanding through the gutter", "willfully trying to confuse people," and having a "fruitcake interpretation of the Constitution." And now he is spending a lot of money to convince people to vote for prop 8. Is this the guy you want influencing laws in California ? Vote No on 8.”
This was a softball. A guy from Colorado was trying desperately to influence laws a coupla states over. AND HE TALKED MAD s*#t ABOUT BARACK OBAMA!
Not to mention the fact that he wrote some bulls*#t-ass letter from “the future” of an Obama win where children no longer said the pledge of allegiance before class and all kinds of filth ran wild…
(One Note: The pledge had a beginning, like anything else. It wasn’t always there. Like the words “In God We Trust” on our money. Both were products of national fear baiting tactics.)
This is why I detest the protests. Gays took the Black vote for granted and didn’t coherently tell the points on the issue until it was too late. Hell, it would’ve made more sense to educate Black folk on the book of Nephi in the Mormon Bible.
Some of the passages read:
2 Nephi 5:21-23: "And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them." "And thus saith the Lord God: I will cause that they shall be loathsome unto thy people, save they shall repent of their iniquities." "And cursed shall be the seed of him that mixeth with their seed; for they shall be cursed even with the same cursing. And the Lord spake it, and it was done." "And because of their cursing which was upon them they did become an idle people, full of mischief and subtlety, and did seek in the wilderness for beasts of prey."
From me to this book…f#ck the book of Nephi. You’ll find that I’m from a long line of Black folk who don’t see any need to be gracious about “feelings of the past” regarding my race, especially since the 1830’s, when it was written, weren’t that long ago and this word came from a world which had many examples of knowing better…so f#ck the book of Nephi.
(Side Note: Supposedly, a Temple leader was blessed with prophecy in the late seventies and Blacks were granted full membership into the ranks of Mormons… and some Blacks joined. To grab you about how wild that is, think of a White man trying to join the Nation of Islam from 1963. Even after reading the words of Elijah Muhammad.)
Moreover this is the same “Ham” and “mark of Cain” argument made to justify slavery. Slavery! And the best y’all could come up with was interracial marriages? See many, across the board, can identify with sincerity of spirit. Not the cat piss George Bush-like sincerity, but real honest to goodness, Jewish, Muslim, Christian and yes Mormon, help your brother, sincerity. So when you picket the Mormon temple now you forget that most of the civil rights era strategy was formed and choreographed and lead by the church. Thus you end up playing out the exact scenario (attack on faith) that the Mormons prognosticated.
Now, the wait is for the Supreme Court. I am against Prop 8 and if it violates civil rights, it shouldn’t exist, no matter how many voted for it. But I see this, not as merely a slice of Gay hate or pseudo-Conservative violence-through-legislation, but also one where gays dropped the ball and are reeling so hard that some are even blaming Black homophobia. No, that vote wasn’t about what Blacks thought you’d gain but what they’d thought they would lose. Remember that. Embrace it. And lead a better charge next time!
