Pastor Chane and First Lady April Smith
Shackelford Miracle Temple (SMT) Church of God in Christ will observe 60 years of ministry and community service with a two-day celebration.
Pastor Chane P. Smith and First Lady April Smith along with the SMT congregation will begin with a special luncheon on Saturday, April 21, at 12 noon, at the Quiet Cannon Restaurant, 901 North Via San Clemente in Montebello. Dr. Reuben Anderson, pastor of Tower of Faith Evangelistic Church, will be the keynote speaker.
The celebration will culminate with a Homecoming Day Service on Sunday, April 22, at 10:30 a.m., in the Shackelford sanctuary at 6025 South Figueroa Street in Los Angeles and Pastor Smith said, "Come looking for a blessing."
Shackelford Miracle Temple was founded in 1952 by the late Elder William (Dad) Shackelford and First Lady Blanche Marie (Mom) Shackelford. SMT members worshipped at 4706 South Vermont Avenue and 5419 South Vermont Avenue before purchasing the current property and constructing the present edifice.
In addition to ‘Dad' Shackelford who passed in 1990, the church's leadership included Elder Emaile Mitchell from 1990 to 1992, and Elder Charles P. Smith who served with his wife, Lady Evelyn Nevel Smith, until 2010.
In September 2010, Bishop Joe L. Ealy, prelate of the First Ecclestical Jurisdiction of Southern California, installed Elder Chane Smith as pastor. He said, "I am standing on the shoulders of SMT's former great leaders."
A spokesperson added, "Pastor Chane is appointed and anointed, reminding us to remember the past as we embrace the future."
