So much for the logic that Mix Martial Arts has passed the sport of boxing in popularity.

Giant promotional company Golden Boy Promotions which launched its foundation on the heels of Oscar de la Hoya has found out the hard way that a good boxing match will always out perform a MMA show in the same region.

One of its own partners Shane Mosley will be fighting on Saturday Jan. 24 at Staples Center against Antonio Margarito for the WBA welterweight title on the same day an Affliction show will be held in Anaheim.

So let the numbers speak for themselves. The Mosley/Margarito fight is a near sellout and expects to have an attendance of more than 18,000 and the MMA show had barely sold 2,000 tickets as of press time.

Bob Arum the lead promoter for the Mosley/Margarito card says that he didn't even spend any marketing money on his show, and Golden Boy has spent a fortune to promote the MMA show opposite their own fighter on a competing network.

If you think things could not have gone any worse than de la Hoy's shrinking performance against Manny Pacquiao then think again.

Mosley is expected for de la Hoya to be ringside at his fight against Margarito, but instead sources say that de la Hoya is going to Anaheim instead.

I guess that statute erected next to Magic Johnson outside of Staples center will have to suffice for the Golden Boy fans who want to know where in the hell he's been and what's next- if there is a next!

In the meantime, we've got a real fight on our hands with the defending WBA titleholder Margarito and veteran Mosley who has never lost a fight to a Mexican.

Mosley feels that he laid out the blue print for Margarito's shocking 11th round TKO victory over Miguel Cotto, but both him have been as humble as President Barack Obama was during his Inauguration speech.

Sugar Shane says that Margarito can only fight one way, coming forward in taking punishment to dish out even more violence. That strategy worked to perfection against Cotto, but did not work against Paul Williams.

While Mosley doesn't have to octane of Williams who is as high volume a puncher as there is in the sport, he does have versatility.

The pride of Pomona has the natural ability to box with a combination of power and speed and his chin is solid. The big question is can he hurt a big strong welterweight such as Margarito.

Another intangible is how will Margarito react now that he's back on top again. He appeared hungry and willing in his quest against Cotto, but against Williams he lacked the desire to retain his title. In retro respect Williams a lot to do with that.

So, this fight will come down to a test of Margarito's will against Mosley's style and which ever one prevails will win the fight.

Another element that cannot be overestimated is Mosley's age. He is 37 and he does have a lot of boxing mileage on him, but if you look at what Hopkins did against Kelly Pavilik you must be convinced that age is nothing but a number.

Then against we are reminded of what happened to de la Hoya against Pacquiao. Interesting stuff for two fighters with the last name beginning with M. M M Good!
