Despite heart attack last month, Amos Clay is settling into new position

The man selected to temporarily replace the vacant 4th District Compton City Council seat of former Compton Councilman Isadore Hall's vacant 4th District seat has endured despite an unexpected illness at the start of his tenure.

Amos Clay, previously a member the Compton Oversight Committee, was appointed on Jan. 6 to replace Hall but suffered a massive heart attack three days later. According to reports, he was sworn in at his bedside.

At press time, Clay, who is in his 70's, was back with the council and in attendance during this week's session. His record of commitment was noted by several reports that stated he had only missed one council meeting.

Much of his background is unknown to the public as no biography was available on the city's website. It is known that Clay has been a member of the Oversight Committee since 2006 and was selected out of 10 possible applicants to replace Hall, who resigned after he was elected to the State Assembly in November.

A formal primary election for the seat--as well as several other key positions--will be held on April 21.
