In remembrance of the 1992 civil unrest, First African Methodist Episcopal Church of Los Angeles will hold special 20th Anniversary Commemoration Services on Sunday, April 29, to mark the momentous period in the city's history.

At 8 a.m., Blair H. Taylor, CEO/president of the Los Angeles Urban League, will speak. The Rev. Al Sharpton will be the guest preacher at the 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. worship services in the FAME sanctuary at 2270 South Harvard Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Danny Bakewell, Sr., LA Sentinel executive publisher, will introduce the Rev. Sharpton at 10:30 a.m., and Laphonza Butler, president of SEIU Long Term Care Workers Union, will present him at 12:30 p.m.

"We know we've made progress in the last two decades, but there are many things that remind us that racism and justice still exist in our city," said Pastor John J. Hunter.

"We invite you to come to our Commemoration Services, bring your friends and let's link arms together, continuing to build the kind of community that our forefathers envisioned and that we believe God would have us to live in."

"In addition to the Rev. Sharpton, many special guests will join us who participated in the healing of Los Angeles following the unrest," he added.
