The Collision Scholastic Hoops Jam sidelines are going to be a bit more crowded as coaches Victoria Saunders and Reggie Morris, Jr. are getting additional help from a couple of their friends in the area.

Saunders, the City Section girls' coach, will be joined by Marine League rival Ricky Blackmon of Washington Prep and Morris will be aided by a fixture in South Bay hoops - Pat Roy of Inglewood.

In his eight years at Washington, Blackmon has made the girls basketball program one of the best in the City. He's already won a City Invitational (now Division II) title in 2002 and took the Lady Generals to the 2007 City Division I finals, where they lost to Taft.

This past year, the program reached another milestone as they clinched their first outright Marine League championship, a year after sharing it with Narbonne. The Lady Generals went 26-5 and reached the City Division I semifinals for the second consecutive season.

Roy has created one of the top programs in the Southland during his 17-year tenure as he reached the Southern Section finals seven times, winning a title in 1994, and the state regional finals three times.

Two of his players have won CIF player of the year: Ray Reed (2003), who also played in Collision V, and Paul Pierce (1995), who has since gone on to an All-American career at Kansas and an All-Star career in the NBA that culminated with him leading the Boston Celtics to the 2008 NBA championship.

The Sentinels advanced the Division IV-AA finals this year after a 24-8 season that saw them win another Ocean League title.

The 11th Collision Scholastic Hoops Jam will be on April 25 at El Camino College.
