One has been the face of sports broadcasting in Los Angeles for the past three decades. The other has been a tireless ambassador for the Dodgers since he joined the team in 1949.

Both Jim Hill and Don Newcombe were rewarded for their efforts last month with an honor that many have known for a while - that they are a Treasure of the city.

At the Central City Association (CCA) 15th Annual Treasure of Los Angeles banquet in April, Hill was honored along with Dodgers legend Don Newcombe, Oscar de La Hoya and LAPD chief William Bratton.

The banquet was held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and City Council President Eric Garcetti served as Master of Ceremonies.

Newcombe, who was appointed Special Advisor to Dodgers chairman Frank McCourt before this season, has spent 47 years with the organization. After helping to integrate baseball, he had an All-Star pitching career where he was the only player in history to win Rookie of the Year, Cy Young and Most Valuable Player Awards.

When his career ended, he began serving as the team's director of community relations in 1970 - a position he still holds today.

Previous honorees include Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Keyshawn Johnson, artist Ernie Barnes, Crenshaw High School's "Food from the 'Hood" program and Reverend Cecil "Chip" Murray.
