Debbie Allen and Husband Norm Nixon to Host 3 Day Celebration Beginning June 25 at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza
World renowned dance choreographer Debbie Allen is bringing her internationally acclaimed dance studio, The Debbie Allen Dance Academy, to the Crenshaw corridor to the corner of Marlton and Santa Rosalia Avenues in the former location of Mattye's Bistro.
To celebrate, Debbie Allen along with her husband Norm Nixon will host a three-day welcoming party at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza located at the intersection of Crenshaw and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevards (3650 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.) beginning on Thursday, June 25 at 7 p.m. with the Academy's innovative and high-energy Summer Dance Series Up On The Roof. The celebration continues on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday from noon until 5:30 p.m. Adults are $20 and children $10.
"This is a very exciting time for me personally as well as Capri Capital Partners," said Quintin E. Primo III, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Capri Capital Partners, LLC. "From the moment Capri purchased Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, it was always our intention to integrate the performing arts into our overall redevelopment plan. The opening of Debbie Allen's Dance Academy is the first tangible evidence of our mall's multi-million dollar renovation project."
"We are so thankful that Quintin recognized the importance of supporting arts in the community--without Quintin we would have no home," said Debbie Allen. "Given the current economic climate and the financial crisis strangling education and the arts across the nation, we're deeply appreciative and proud to be able to continue our mission to nurture young dancers and develop the next generation of performers, artists and creative citizens. Without the generosity of The Annenberg Foundation, our generous supporters and corporate sponsors, we wouldn't be able to give scholarships to our talented students."
The Debbie Allen Dance Academy is a state-of-the-art dance academy founded by actress, dancer, producer, director Debbie Allen and NBA world champion and former Los Angeles Laker, Norman Nixon. In the nine years since the academy opened, the school has seen students go on to perform in feature films, hit television shows, on Broadway and concert stage. The Academy has three concerts annually that showcase the talent of its nearly 400 students ages 4 to 21. A 501c (3) not-for-profit arts organization, the Academy relies on the support of individuals, corporations, and foundations to reach thousands of young people every year.
