ELECTED OFFICIALS JOINED IN CELEBRATION OF CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS ON THE EXPO LINE PROJECT!

Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, Councilmembers Herb Wesson and Jan Perry and other elected officials joined to celebrate construction progress on the 8.6 mile Expo Light Rail Line on Friday, August 21.

The event showcased the completion of the installation of soundwalls along the project alignment.  Also on hand to celebrate this milestone were members of the Expo Urban Design Committee, including Michael Jones, President and CEO of the Crenshaw Chamber of Commerce, Renee Gunter, Owner/Designer of Urbanscapes Landscape Design Firm, and Joyce Perkins, Co-Founder of Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative (LANI).

Close to a mile of soundwalls will be installed in mostly residential areas to minimize noise impacts.  The soundwalls consist of pre-cast concrete panels set between steel posts and feature a weaving pattern consistent with the Transit Parkway theme for the project.

The Expo Line is scheduled to open in 2010 and will provide a fast and efficient transportation option for the community.  The $862 million project will include nine new stations along the Exposition Right-of-way from downtown Los Angeles to Venice/Robertson in Culver City.
