Unite Here Local 11, Hotels, Leaders Join to Offer Free Hospitality Training for Minority Communities

30 Candidates will Receive Training at The Renaissance Hollywood Hotel

The Los Angeles Area Diversity Taskforce is conducting a new pilot training program titled, "Hospitality Boot Camp," as a collaborative effort on behalf of UNITE HERE Local 11, Union Hotels and local community leaders to create more jobs for minorities in the hospitality industry. Slated to begin October 5th, the intensive five day labor and management training program will heighten awareness and lay a foundation for hospitality career opportunities for members of the African-American and other under-represented communities.

"I'm proud of the collaborative, strategic efforts of the Diversity Council to initiate this pathway for opportunity. I am fully confident that those whom we recruit and train through our rigorous Boot Camp will be immediately employable by all the managers in our coalition, as well as those throughout the Los Angeles hotel industry," said Reverend Dr. Lewis E. Logan, II, Co-Founder and Senior Pastor of Ruach Radio Ministry.

Attendees of the Hospitality Boot Camp will go through a total immersion training program that models on-the-job and industry standards; and will familiarize attendees with the nature of the hospitality work environment, job expectations and personal performance. Participants will also receive training in the core principles of guest service and hospitality; learn the fundamental structure of hotel operational departments; entry-level jobs and career ladders. Attendees will be provided counseling and peer mentoring to help prepare them for successful job interviews and careers. Hospitality Boot Camps are comprised of five 8-hour sessions and will take place on October 5th from 8am - 5pm at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel, 1755 N. Highland Avenue, Los Angeles. The program is accepting up to 30 candidates, and enrolled candidates will receive complimentary parking and lunch daily. For more information visit:
