The Inglewood community still mourns the senseless death of preschool teacher Crystal Crawford while investigators try to piece together a case.

Crawford was sitting in her car with her friends on May 30th of this year, around 11 p.m., on 8th Avenue near 95th Street. A car pulled along side her car and a gunman opened fire, killing Crawford and wounding another passenger.

Investigators believe that the shooter was involved with gangs, but they do not believe that Crawford, or anybody in her car, was involved in gangs. It appears to be a case of mistaken identity.

Inglewood City Council has offered a $25,000 reward for information that would lead to the capture of the gunman.

A candlelight vigil was held at the location of the scene of the murder this past Sunday. Residents, along with police officers from the Inglewood Police Department, walked around the neighborhood passing out fliers, hoping to find somebody that has some information.

"We're here to find out who murdered Crystal Crawford and to bring some closure to her family," said La Wanda West, executive director of Stop the Violence Increase the Pease Foundation in Inglewood. "Today's goal is to get the message out and allow the family to move forward."

Crystal lived in Los Angeles and was a preschool teacher at Christian based St. John's Lutheran in El Segundo, California. She joined St. John's Lutheran in the spring of 2008 and taught in the Lady Bug classroom to student's ages 4 and 5. This year she received her first Pre- K class.

St. John's Lutheran learned the devastating news after Crystal did not report for work. The staff of six teachers were told of the ill-fated news and then told the children's parents.

Patty Ginossi, the director for St. John's Lutheran stated, "Crystal taught with love and dedication. She truly loved her students."
