USC’s Staffon Johnson On Road to Recovery

When USC takes the field at the Coliseum, it would almost surprise no one if Stafon Johnson was on the sidelines, cheering his team on.

The senior tailback, who nearly crushed his throat in a weightlifting accident on September 28, has been home a little more than a week yet he's already showing signs that he's not letting the injury damper his spirit.

On October 15, Johnson made a surprise appearance at a team meeting. In a video taken by the team, he walked in to loud applause, slapped hands, danced around and looked every bit of the guy his team knew and loved.

"He's not only fighting through it but he's sending out an energy and a message around him," Trojans coach Pete Carroll said in a video on his Youtube channel, "His spirit has been so positive and upbeat that he's affecting everybody."

Johnson is staying active on the social network Twitter, where he is actively communicating with fans and thanking them for their well-wishes. He also accompanied the team on their recent road game at Notre Dame.

He remains fitted with a breathing tube in his throat and is expected to be in rehab for several months. But his upbeat spirit is helping those close to him trust that his recovery is still on track.
