Familiar with Jill Scott, Floetry, or Saul Williams? Well allow me to introduce you to John Blak eclectic and dynamic performers.
"I'm spoken-word for words unspoken..."states Blak, an independent artist based out of Los Angeles. " I'm like one fourth Soul Artist, two fourths Spoken-Word, and a splash of MC" says Blak and that's exactly what you get on his latest promotional EP "The Alpha Project."
Since 1997, J. Blak has written poetry, and worked on perfecting his craft as a spoken-word artist. His dedication to cultivating his artistic side withstood his six year professional football career and adds to an array of experiences that bleed through on his latest EP "The Alpha Project."
The album begins with Blak paying homage on tracks like "Allusions of Grandeur" and "The Alpha." "I'm a big fan of Gil Scot Heron, Floetry, and Jill Scott.
The way they've blended music with poetry inspired me to pick up the piano. I was able to grasp the fundamentals and play fluently so at that point I was like yo' I'm throwing it in the set."
The Alpha Project strings together eclectic vibes with tracks like "Untitled" and "The Urge" while the albums sensuality peeks on tracks like The Gem.In.I Spinal Tap, and Milan. The Alpha Project makes no apologies in approaching real life issues on track like Lakeshore Drive featuring soul singer Kevin Sandbloom.
"Man I just feel blessed that the spirit is able to use me. I didn't sit down and say yo' I'm bout to write an album, it just came out of me. I hope when people hear this that, that truth is relevant and that the words on this album speak to them," said Blak.
That my friends are just a sample of what will be in store for you on November 28 at the Dream Center in Carson.
