Theresa Price BLACK COLLEGE EXPO RETURNS TO LOS ANGELES
SATURDAY, JANUARY 23, 2010
The Black College Expo returns to Los Angeles for its eleventh year. The expo will take place on Saturday, January 23, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, California 90015. This one-day event will include seminars, workshops, and a $10,000 scholarship presentation by our local title sponsor, Southern California Edison (SCE) to a deserving high school senior. SCE representatives and other companies will also be actively recruiting college students for paid internships and conduct on the spot interviews. There will also be career opportunities for recent graduates.
The event will conclude with entertainment featuring KFC step-show & dance competition hosted by video supermodel Melyssa Ford and surprise celebrity guests.
The Black College Expo’s mission is to share resources with students to help them get into college, learn about internships and today’s hot careers. One of the featured seminars will be “How to find MONEY for Collegeâ€. The national title sponsor, US Navy will share an opportunity for college students to receive up to $4,300 a month for college. Students will get the chance to meet with close to 100 colleges, including 40+ historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), along with other colleges. Some of schools will be accepting students and giving away scholarships on the spot.Â
In addition to Los Angeles expo, the Black College Expo will host its annual event in the following cities for 2010: Oakland (Jan. 30), Atlanta (Feb. 27), New York (Nov. 6) and Washington, DC (Nov. 13).
“I am so excited to celebrate 10 years of helping over 250,000 students get into college as well as giveaway over $500,000 worth of scholarships. We are equally excited to have a collaborative partner like Southern California Edison to continue to help thousands of students get to college, careers and beyondâ€, says founder Theresa Price.
This year’s local title sponsor, Southern California Edison will join BCE’s other local sponsors: Wells Fargo, CVS/Pharmacy, Union Bank and Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) African American Outreach Initiative.
