Ten Bishops of the African Methodist Episcopal Church attended the service for retired Bishop H. H. Brookins.  Bishop John H. Bryant (left) of the Fourth Episcopal District officiated and Bishop T. Larry Kirkland, Sr., of the Fifth Episcopal District delivered the eulogy.  Bishop Brookins was a mentor to Bishop Kirkland and appointed him as the first pastor of Brookins Community A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles in 1977.

The Rev. Dr. Cecil ‘Chip' Murray was appointed by Bishop Brookins as pastor of First A.M.E. Church in 1977.
