Southern California Prep Hoops Classic to Honor Jim Harrick

Former UCLA, Pepperdine coach will receive Lifetime Achievement Award

The 12th annual Collision high school all star basketball event, which feature the top players representing the Los Angeles City Section against Southern Section in girls and boys games, will pay tribute to former UCLA coach Jim Harrick, honoring him with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Harrick, who was the last coach to win a National Championship at UCLA in 1995, began his illustrious coaching journey at Inglewood's Morningside High School. He will become the first former college coach so honored and the event will rename the Lifetime Achievement Award in his honor.

"This recognition is most appropriate because Jim Harrick represents what is great about high school basketball in Southern California," said event director Kenneth Miller.

Since the installment of the award, the recipients have included former high school coaching legend Willie West of Crenshaw High School, Westchester High School's successful coach Ed Azzam, former Ocean View High standout Matt Sergeant who was also named a Collision Scholar Athlete and graduated from Princeton, and in 2009 Mel Sims, the successful girls head coach at Chino Hills Ayala High School.

Collision XII will be held on Saturday April 24 at El Camino College in Torrance. The girls game will tip at 5p.m. and the boys game at 6:30p.m. Harrick will be honored at halftime of the boys affair. For tickets and more information contact (310) 924-7851.
