Southern California Edison honors outstanding employees during Women's History Month

Southern California Edison (SCE) salutes four African American employees in honor of Women's History Month. The women serve at different levels and capacities within the company.

Newly hired Patricia Miller, vice president, Human Resources, previously held executive roles at AIG, ARCO and Shell. Miller sites several reasons for her rise through the employment ranks. "Making sure you have a goal and that you align opportunities with your goal is key," said Miller. "Having a support system in place is also essential. I would not be where I am today without the support of my family."

SCE provides employees with advancement support systems such as the Networkers and other affinity groups comprised of volunteers who share various cultures, traditions, ethnicities, and sexual and gender preferences. Their goal is to promote diversity and cultural awareness within SCE and the communities it serves.

Patricia V. Click, manager, Accounts Receivable and Networkers member said, "In the beginning of my career, I really didn't have a goal in place. Networkers allowed me to join an organization, build relationships and network with individuals in other departments."

Click is now sharing what she has learned with a new generation of SCE employees. "Just recently, I took a new employee to lunch and invited several other women within the company to join us," said Click. "I wanted to provide them with the same support system and resources Networkers provided me early in my career." Yolanda Hunter, SCE manager, Accounts Payable and president of Networkers agreed that joining the Networkers group is a "great opportunity for employees to network and have a source of guidance within a large organization."

Debbie Lumpkin, Supplier Development, also encouraged women to take advantage of such resources. "Affinity groups provide an environment for learning. For women in particular, it's a place to share ideas and strategies for balancing work and family life," she said.

Aside from their professional duties at SCE, these women serve in community and civic organizations. Click is a certified foster parent and serves as a board member of Stop the Violence and Increase the Peace. Miller is a member of the board of directors for Families and Work Institute and is the co-founder and past president of the Katy, Texas chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc.

"We're proud of employees like Patricia Miller who hold themselves to high standards and are positive influences at work and in their communities," said Veronica Gutierrez, SCE's vice president, Corporate Communications. "We're honoring our female employees this month for their courage, spirit and contribution to our company's success."
