Assemblyman Mike Davis (D-48) stands with Speakers, 48th District Staff and honorees at the Annual Academic Achievement Luncheon.

LOS ANGELES - June 10, 2012 - Assemblyman Mike Davis (D-48) hosted a crowd of 200 constituents at his 6th Annual Academic Achievement Awards Luncheon at the California Science Center. Assemblyman Davis understands the value of education as he has obtained several professional degrees. It is because of his passion for education that he acknowledges graduating seniors who have achieved an accumulative G.P.A. of 3.6 or above. This year the participating schools were: Washington Preparatory High School, Manual Arts High School, Foshay Learning Center, Frederick K. C. Price High School, and 32nd Street USC MaST High School-all located in the 48th Assembly District.

“Education is the key to success.  It can be the equalizer for our young people as they aspire to provide leadership and give back to our society,” remarked Assemblyman Davis, Vice Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus.

The keynote speaker, Charles Ludd, former deputy for Assemblyman Davis in his Los Angeles district office who went on to attend George Washington School of Law and has successfully passed the state of California Bar exam. Mr. Davis wanted to represent both sides of the matriculation through the law school experience. He was able to do just that by showcasing his current Senior Legislative Aide, Emerson Luke from his Sacramento office who will be attending UCLA School of Law this fall. They both were captivating with their remarks on the importance of education.

Each graduating senior received a Certificate of Recognition from the State of California Assembly for their scholastic achievement. Davis believes highlighting seniors who have achieved academic excellence should be the focus of public attention.

The inspirational program included musical performances from the Assemblyman Davis’ 48th District 2011 Talent Showcase winners, Myracle Holloway, First Place and Jarron King, Second Place. Chef Marilyn served the guests a delicious meal and desserts.

The event was a success as it clearly enriched the lives of those in attendance and let them know they are appreciated and expected to provide future leadership in our community.
