Terry Jackson
Terry Jackson

Service for Terry Jackson, nephew of veteran journalist and former Los Angeles Sentinel food editor, Libby Clark will be held Saturday, 24 July 2010, at 2:00 pm, at Simpson Family Mortuary, 3443 West Manchester Boulevard, Inglewood.

Jackson made his transition on July 14 at Cedars of Sinai following an extended illness, at the age of 60. A United Airlines retiree, he was sole caregiver for his disabled mother for a number of years until his own health challenges a couple of years ago.

Terry's father, Charles Jackson preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother, Geraldine Clark Turner of Inglewood; brother, Reginald Jackson, and aunt, Libby Clark of Los Angeles; cousin Carol Spears and family of Victorville, California; aunts and cousins in and around Chester, Pennsylvania; and a large extended family and caring friends and neighbors.

Gifted with an exquisite, natural baritone voice, Jackson graduated from Dorsey High School, where he was mentored by his music instructor, world renowned artist, Albert McNeil and toured the country with the Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers. Jackson later sang and danced his way across North America and Europe with the Doodletown Pipers, a '60's and '70's "easy listening" multicultural vocal group founded by Ward Ellis and colleagues. The vocal group appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show performed with such luminaries as Count Basie, Sarah Vaughn, The Carpenters and a host of others. From an early age, Jackson had a tremendous fascination with airplanes, which led to a passion and knowledge of aeronautics and love of travel, which was a driving force in his life. He will be remembered as a loving, kind, charismatic, generous, fun, compassionate, loyal and valiant individual.
