Serra High School's Robert Woods has already finished his high school career and has moved on to USC, but he is still racking up high school awards.

Woods was named the 2009-2010 ESPN RISE Cal-Hi Sports Boys State Athlete of the Year.

Woods won the award by not only excelling as a wide receiver and defensive back on Serra's state championship team, but also by winning a state title, along with two other state medals, in track and field.

As a wide receiver Woods was a co-captain on Serra's undefeated Division III State championship team.  He finished the season with 66 receptions for 1,112 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Defensively he finished with 96 tackles eight interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns.

Woods finished his high school football career with 192 receptions for 3,310 yards and 41 touchdowns.  He also had 25 interceptions.

He saved one of his best games of his career for the State Bowl game, where he finished the game with a record 180 receiving yards, and his two touchdown receptions tied the record.  His outstanding played helped Serra to a 24-20 win over Marin Catholic (Kentfield).

Woods also lit up the track, anchoring Serra's 4x400 meter relay team to the state title.  He finished second in the 400-meter dash (46.17, which was the second fastest time in the nation), and he finished third in the 200-meter dash (21.01).

Woods loved dominating on the track, but he is a football player at heart, and he's looking to have a great career at USC.

Sports is not the only place where Woods excelled, he was a true student athlete.  He carried a 4.0 GPA as a senior and a 3.5 overall.

Other Los Angeles area athletes to be named State Athlete of the Year are Mike Stanton (2007, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, football, basketball, baseball), Steve Smith (2003, Woodland Hills Taft, football, basketball, track), Chris Lewis (1999, Long Beach Poly, football, volleyball), Ken-Yon Rambo (1997, Long Beach Poly, football, track), John Williams (1984, Crenshaw, basketball), and Darryl Strawberry (1980, Crenshaw, basketball, baseball).
