It's been a long season full of offensive woes for the boys in blue. They remain in critical condition as the season continues to winds down. The Dodgers playoff hopes remains in jeopardy. There's still plenty of baseball left, but the Dodgers need a winning streak fast and in a hurry. They've been dormant since the All-Star break; it's time to take off.
With the playoffs just around the corner, the Dodgers have been dropping players like flies. I can't keep up with the roster because it changes almost every day. When I arrived to the stadium on Sunday, I was informed that Outfielder Garret Anderson was laid off. His services were no longer needed, so he's now able to take the remaining of the season off and file for unemployment. After hitting only .185 for the season, Dodgers Manager Joe Torre had no choice but to send Anderson home on an early vacation.
"Anderson has been inconsistent up here," Torre said. "As tough as this was for me, we felt like we wanted to try something different."
The Dodgers are looking for power hitters to drive runs in. Getting on base hasn't been a problem for the Dodgers, but leaving men on base have become a major riddle. When the Dodgers played the Giants they left 10 men on base. That's unacceptable. Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier will have to show up and start producing in order for this team to make a run. I think the frustration is most definitely interfering with both players game right now. But if these two players can get going, the rest of the team will step it up. It's so painful to watch them struggling, because I know they want to help their team win these ballgames.
One thing I can say is this team confidence has not cooled down; they're staying positive and still believing that they can turn this bad taste around. I'm not going to write the bad boys off just yet, but they need to win at least 4 out of 6 games on the road this week. I'm still waiting on the NL West first place Padres and NL West second place Giants to go cold, because this hot streak for both teams have been very random. Please grant my wish.
Injuries continue to hit the Dodgers dug out. Manny Ramirez and Rafael Furcal continue to rehab to make a return this season. Catcher Russell Martin will likely miss the rest of the season, due to a hip injury that he suffered while trying to score on a sacrifice fly last Tuesday night.
"It looks like it will be the rest of the year", Torre said." Right now, I'm more concerned with having him be able to get back to full health and be able to do this again".
I just want this team to get well physically and mentally, so we will have a chance to compete in the playoffs. From here on the theme for the boys in blue will be "Big things popping, and little things stopping". Win, Win and Win!
