JORDAN READY FOR LEAGUE PLAY

Coach Sheron Butler already has a reason to be proud of the Bulldogs. In his first season as head coach, his team will enter league play with a 2-2 record. The way the Bulldogs are playing is much more important than their two losses to Long Beach Jordan and Crespi. With the graduation of All City back Dashawn Beck and the exit of five-year coach Elijah Asante, expectations are high for the new coach. Jordan has been to the playoffs in four of the last five years and although they played in the Championship Division, they were good enough to win the Invitational Division.

On Friday the Bulldogs traveled to play the Generals of Washington Prep in their final preseason game. This would be a special game for new Bulldog Darrius Vallery since he was a General last year. The game would start late due to some transportation issues, and kickoff would be at 3:40pm. The buzz on the Jordan sideline would make one feel as though the Bulldogs knew that this would be a good day for them. A team effort would be used to earn a sound victory over the Generals. The game started with a 40-yard pass from Jordon’s Justin Lewis to receiver Robert Mc Covery for the games first touchdown.

Lewis would eventually use all receivers and throw six touchdown passes, finishing 14 of 31 for 293 yards and three interceptions. Darrius Vallery would end the day with two catches for 50 yards and 8 solo tackles on defense. Jordan’s defense would allow no points, however two of Lewis’s interceptions were returned for short touchdowns by Ralph Harvey and Kenneth Cole of the Generals. Jordan will travel to Huntington Park this week and try to continue their style of team defense, and scoring offense that they have played with so far this year.

In other games this week, undefeated Dorsey was too fast for Compton, speeding by the Tarbabes 40- 7 in a game that was supposed to be one of the better games last week. Quarterback Joseph Gray finished 14 of 22 for 302 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Crenshaw was victorious over J W North of Riverside, relying on the legs of D’Anthony Thomas (10 carries for 120 yards and 2 touchdowns) and some new excitement from Shaquille Shelton (90 yards and 2 touchdowns).

Over in the southern section, Lakewood wins 44-0 over Leuzinger and Serra wins 48-7 over Peninsula. These two teams continue to just roll over their opponents, while Long Beach Poly was manhandled by Mission Viejo 37-7. Culver City was a winner over Redondo Union but they will face the Cougars at Crenshaw this week.
