A Young Person's Perspective

By Akemini E. Ukpong, Contributing Writer

What has your focus this holiday season?  Is it the people, the presents or the holiday fanfare?  In light of all the hustle and bustle it is important to remember the blessings we already have.

When we think all the worldly things we could have, a slump of ungratefulness in this holiday season.  But that is when we need to put all of our 'wants' aside and thank GOD for the 'needs' HE has provided.  In these times, it is vital to re-focus our thoughts.

When we re-focus our thoughts, we can transform our lives.  In transforming our lives, the minor things that seemed to matter once before, tend not to matter anymore.  On the same token, major things that had once been overshadowed by the fanfare of life begin to come alive!

In this holiday season, it is imperative to guard the focus of our thoughts.  When we guard our thoughts, we empower ourselves to focus on accomplishing greater achievements than ever before!  We are then freed to enjoy life's finer things.

The thoughts you keep will often determine your state of mind.  Your state of mind will yield to you either limited or limitless possibilities.  Those possibilities will, in turn, either create or constrain opportunities in your life.

Therefore, take some time to ask yourself, 'Are the possibilities in my life limited or limitless?' and 'Am I creating or constraining the opportunities that come into my life?'

In this way, it is essential that we choose our thoughts rather than allow our thoughts to choose us. If we are going to live a life of hope and prosperity, our thoughts need to focus primarily on counting our blessings.

Often times, when we want to complain, taking a look around cures the urge.  Just when you think your world is crumbling, you may find that someone else is in the process of picking up the scattered pieces to put theirs back together.

Once you change your focus from yourself to someone else, you realize that things aren't as awful as they could be.  And that's when you begin to count your blessings, one by one.

In this holiday season, and throughout the year, whenever you are feeling less than your best, remember all of the great things God has already done and realize that He can do it again!

God is alive and limitless...He gives us a choice.  We have to choose thoughts that will render limitless possibilities and opportunities in our lives!

Will you choose to constrain your blessings by complaining or will you choose to abound in blessings by appreciating and counting them one by one?

Which one will give you the most freedom and prosperity?  It is your choice.
