The auditorium was full to capacity with standing room only for those who arrived on time.  It was a sight to behold ... it appeared that the entire 33rd congressional district, including  numerous elected officials, came out to witness the new congressional representative, Congresswoman Karen Bass, being sworn in close to her constituents.

The setting was the Robert F. Kennedy Community School Auditorium (formerly the Ambassador Hotel) and after being welcomed by the host principal, there were student performances before Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa gave an assessment of Bass as she traveled some of the same paths the mayor had traveled - as assembly member and assembly speaker.

Then the venerable Congresswoman Diane Watson (ret.) who followed with similar accolades about Bass - especially when she spoke of lifting while she climbed, in reference to passing to torch to Bass who has passed it on to the new Assemblywoman Holly Mitchell, who has followed Bass representing the 47th assembly district.  Watson brought on former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, now the minority leader, and she officially welcomed Bass as one of her newest colleagues in the House.

Bass then took the oath of office and gave the crowd what they came for: to hear the new congresswoman's goals and objectives for the district, and what she intend to do to assist President Barack Obama solve the problems that has been dogging his administration from day one.

Also in attendance to welcome Bass were her colleagues, Congresswomen Maxine Waters and Laura Richardson; Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, Assembly members Steve Bradford and Mitchell.
