Rev. Dr. Henry L. Masters Sr.
The 10th anniversary of the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Henry L. Masters, Sr. will be celebrated by the Holman United Methodist Church family on Sunday, April 17, at the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., worship services at 3320 West Adams Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Dr. Masters came to Holman on Palm Sunday in 2001 after serving many years as pastor and District Superintendent at several churches in the Dallas, Texas area. Under his strong visionary leadership, Holman established its Liturgical Dance Ministries, started the annual Fall Gala recognizing notable individuals for community service, and began Disciple Bible Study initiated by his wife, Rev. S. Dianna Masters, which graduates 75 to 100 students each year.
Also, Dr. Masters instituted the Rites of Passage Program for young boys, and the Jobs for Kids program that provides summer work for L. A. children. Since 2004, more than 350 youth have been hired for the six-week employment.
In addition, the FUSE Ministry worship recently began on Sundays at 6 p.m. The contemporary service, designed to attract young adults and the ‘young at heart,' features a band, a more casual dress and a relaxed atmosphere.
The congregation has experienced consistent growth during Dr. Masters' tenure and the ratings have increased for its radio ministry. Worship services at Holman are broadcast each Sunday at 11 a.m., on KJLH 102.3 FM.
The greater Los Angeles community is invited to participate in Dr. Masters' 10th Anniversary celebration. For more details, call (323) 731-7285.
