‘As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him...' Psalm 103:13
In my life, I have had many ‘fathers.' I have one biological father, but many men who God placed in my path have each played a very important role in my life.
While the holiday is meant to celebrate our biological fathers, it is also fitting to celebrate the men who came along and cared enough to fill the shoes of those who are not present, regardless of the circumstance; and who fill the voids that sometimes even our own fathers may not be able to fill.
Spiritual fathers, mentor fathers, step-fathers, adopted fathers, coaches who are like fathers, neighbors who keep watch over us like a father would, grandfathers, teachers that inspire and instruct us like fathers, friends of the family that sow into our lives just like a father, and the list can go on and on. The point is, fathers and those who have filled-in, whatever your role has been in the life of a young man or woman, we appreciate you today!
When you see the social breakdown of our community, the girls in prostitution, the boys in gangs, the mothers stressed and struggled out from single parenting, and the increase of youth and domestic violence; it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that our families need more of the strength, wisdom, instruction, leadership, guidance, provision and protection that comes from ‘Fathers' who care.
The Lord looks upon us like a father over his children with great care and compassion, to see after all of our needs, burdens, interest, hopes and dreams!
I pray that on this Father's Day, you are celebrated and encouraged to keep doing what you do and make the difference!!!
