Dr. Gesna B. Scott, a music instructor, celebrated her 51st Annual Piano Recital on Sunday, June 13, at Calvary Baptist Church in Compton Calif.This auspicious occasion featured students of the pianoforte who performed compositions from some of the world's greatest composers.Dr. Scott has encouraged, motivated and influenced these individuals for a number of years. This is evident through the years as her students have been able to perform successfully, locally and abroad.She embraces each one of them with her commitment for excellence as well as high expectations to promote a prescribed achievement level for every pupil.A special treat was included in this event by Dr. Jesse Hall, the choir director at Hamilton United Methodist Church of Los Angeles. He rendered two beautiful musical selections.Anthony Williams, a student violinist performed several selections. His performance was appreciated through the clapping of hands. Williams graduated from Las Vegas Academy for the Performing Arts and has been admitted and attending the Performing Arts University of New York.Dr. Scott is a recipient of a Master's degree in music and education, a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, and is a life member of the University of Southern California General Alumni Association. She taught in the Compton Unified School District for a number of years.Being a life member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., she is the Charter Basileus of Delta Zeta Sigma Charter of Compton, California and has served as the music chairman of the sorority throughout the United States, Bermuda, and the Hawaiian Islands.She is also a member of Grant A.M.E. Church, its Adult Choir and the president of the Church Courtesy Club.There were several presentations of awards and gifts presented throughout the evening. Guests gave a rousing applause in showing their appreciation for a job well done.
