Congressman James Clyburn (Dem. – South Carolina, 6th Congressional District)
The Honorable James Clyburn will be visiting Los Angeles on Friday, September 5, 2014 for the book signing of his memoir, “Blessed Experiences: Genuinely Southern, Proudly Black.” The book signing and reception in his honor will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Los Angeles Sentinel, 3800 Crenshaw Blvd.
Reception co-host Congresswoman Karen Bass stated, “Congressman James Clyburn is a political icon in South Carolina Politics. He is also a nationally renowned African American political leader in the United States Congress. He is the third ranking member in the U.S. House of Representatives serving as Assistant Democratic Leader. We are honored to have Mr. Clyburn in Los Angeles to share his life experiences.”
Clyburn’s memoir recounts his rise from the Jim Crow-era to the highest levels of Congress. He is considered a confidant of President Barack Obama who has described Clyburn as “one of a handful of people who, when they speak, the entire Congress listens.”
