The L.A. Inner City Mass Choir (LAICMC) continues to capture awards with the latest being first place in the "Shoes for Hope" Gospel Fest held recently in Riverside.

Under founder and director Jeffery Coprich, LAICMC competed with four other gospel choirs to win the top honor.

The contest was sponsored by the charity, Samaritan's Feet, to raise funds and increase awareness of the organization's mission to provide shoes for impoverished men, women and children.

LAICMC, founded by Coprich 20 years ago, has sung in venues throughout the nation; performing for presidents, congressional leaders, governors and local officials. Also, the choir has recorded and performed gospel music with top artists such as Stevie Wonder, Patti La Belle, Celine Dion, Gladys Knight, Yolanda Adams and Shirley Caesar.

"God has blessed us in a mighty way. I didn't start the choir to be a recording artist or any of that. It's all good stuff that came along the way. This choir was always about bringing young people together and letting them know that by placing God and education above all else, they can be rising stars of today, leaders of tomorrow and achievers of the future," Coprich said.

The next big performance for LAICMC will be at the 6th Annual Gospel Musical Jubilee on December 18, at 6 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 10740 Ohio Avenue in Los Angeles. The holiday program will also feature Dr. Rickie Byars-Beckwith and the Agape International Choir.

The event is sponsored by the African American Activities Committee of the Southern California Public Affairs Office of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
