The overpass bridge needs to be replaced for construction of a new state-of-the-art light-rail station for the Crenshaw/LAX Line

Metro has released a Public Service Announcement featuring Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas alerting the public about the upcoming demolition of the old railroad bridge over Century Boulevard at Aviation Boulevard the weekend of July 25-28, 2014.

The PSA video is publicly available on You Tube at http://youtu.be/1mii88iUFHY to help individuals, businesses, and community members alike raise public awareness about the coming demolition operation and required street closures.

Century Boulevard is one major artery to Los Angeles International Airport with more than 92,000 motorists traveling through the Century and Aviation boulevards intersection daily.

Ridley-Thomas is asking the public to plan ahead, have patience, allow extra time if traveling in the area, find an alternate route, or use public transit.

“We’re here to alert you to what we are calling the ‘Century Crunch,’” says Ridley-Thomas in the PSA.  “We want to make sure that we are safe…and that no one is in any way harmed by delays.”

The 57-hour full street closure on Century Boulevard will begin on 9 p.m. Friday, July 25 an open at 6 a.m. Monday, July 28. Aviation Boulevard will close the southbound lane between Arbor Vitae and 104th street.

The overpass bridge needs to be replaced for construction of a new state-of-the-art light-rail station for the Crenshaw/LAX Line, a 8.5-mile rail line that will connect the Green Line and the Expo Line. The Crenshaw/LAX Line is expected to open in 2019.
