The Los Angeles Sentinel and its sister publication, L.A. Watts-Times, garnered four honors in the 2014 National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) Merit Awards.  The announcement came during the NNPA’s annual convention in Portland, OR, on June 30.

The Sentinel earned third place awards for Best Entertainment Section and Best Religion Page while the Watts-Times captured first place for Best News Pictures and third place in the Robert S. Vann Best Layout and Design category.

“These awards confirm that we are on the right track in our efforts to provide our readers with the highest quality product possible,” said Danny Bakewell, Sr., Executive Editor of both publications.

“I want to commend our editorial and production staffs as well as our valuable readers who support us with news and subscriptions.”
