Rev. Dr. Sonja R. Dawson

A salute to three local women will highlight the Sisters in Ministry (SIM) Annual Prayer Breakfast and Torch Awards.

The event is set for Saturday, July 19, at 8:30 a.m., at The Grand Long Beach Event Center, 4101 East Willow Street in Long Beach.

The honorees are Assistant Pastor Natalie K. Owens of Faith Inspirational Baptist Church in Compton, the Rev. Stephanie Butler Adams of Spirit of Praise Sacred Arts Institute International in Long Beach, and Sentinel Religion Editor Cora Jackson-Fossett.

“This is our time to celebrate local women in ministry. Each year, the Lord has blessed us to sell out, so don't wait to get your tickets,” said the Rev. Dr. Sonja R. Dawson, SIM founder/CEO and pastor of New Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles.

Tickets are available for a $30 donation.  For information, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Sisters in Ministry, Inc., founded in 2003 by Dr. Dawson, is an inter-denominational fellowship of women in ministry. SIM’s threefold mission is to strengthen women in ministry by supporting one another, promote excellence in ministry and encourage surrendered service to the Body of Christ.

“SIM is first and foremost in the business of connecting and supporting women in ministry. SIM is committed to advancing the Kingdom of God through well-trained ministers of the gospel who uplift the profession of Christian ministry while serving the Body of Christ,” shared Dr. Dawson.

“Secondly, our preferred picture of the future is an international interdenominational fellowship that spans across racial and cultural lines to embrace all women who believe that God has called them to Christian ministry.

“Finally, our values include fully surrendered lives, devotions to spiritual disciplines, such as Bible study, prayer and fasting, and unity among all clergy, both male and female.”
