Kamala Harris, the first woman and first African American Attorney General of the State of California, in partnership with California African American Museum (CAAM) and the United Way of Greater Los Angeles will host an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement on Monday June 30 at CAAM from 11 a.m. to 1p.m.

Harris was sworn in as the 32nd Attorney General of the State of California on Jan. 3, 2011.

The Civil Rights Movement commemorates the 1964 Voting Rights Acts and has been hailed as the movement that changed the world. Harris will celebrate those who sacrificed so much to make the Civil Rights Movement happen. They were armed with nothing more than hope in their hearts, a prayer on their lips, and the winds of freedom at their backs.
