First Lady Mae Blake

First Lady Mae L. Blake, West Angeles Church of God in Christ: “Mothers are invaluable, their price is far above rubies - no quantity of precious stones can be equal to their worth.”

Brenda Marsh-Mitchell

Brenda Marsh-Mitchell, First A.M.E. Church-Pasadena: “I encourage mothers to be guided by Proverbs 22:6. I believe that if you’re a mother, you have to give up some things you used to do and raise your child with your love and your knowledge.

"I want my children to experience everlasting life, to be kind, gentle, and understanding, visit the sick, house the homeless and do everything biblically that we are supposed to do.  Start children off on the way they should go and when they are old, they will not turn from it.  I think if mothers would do that, our children would be better.”

Alice Williams

Alice Williams, Transfiguration Catholic Church: “Mother's Day! What a glorious day to honor our mothers who have always been faithful to us and taught us to be faithful to God, our Heavenly Father. So important is Mother, God included her in one of His Commandments, e.g., ‘Honor thy Mother.’

“The Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of our Savior Jesus Christ, was faithful to Him even to His death upon the cross. Nowadays, when so many mothers are ‘single parent, head of household’ and struggling to raise their children alone, they are worthy of the utmost admiration and praise. God bless all mothers, whether they are deceased or still with us!”

Pastor D. Najuma Pollard

Pastor D. Najuma Pollard, Word of Encouragement Community Church: “The word I would share to encourage mothers and those who serve graciously like mothers is, ‘Hope!’

“Amidst so much struggle, challenge, trauma, disappointment and the unexplained, there is still hope. Because God is real and the Lord, our Savior, made intercession for us all, there is still hope.

“Hope for a better day, hope that God will turn things around for the good, hope for our children to rise from the conditions they face and become thriving individuals, hope that within us is the ingenuity to prosper in these challenging economic times, hope for healing of HIV/aids, cancer, diabetes, heart disease and obesity, just to name a few.

"Hope that our collective power and work will overcome bigotry and racism plaguing our society. Life is not hopeless and we must remain hopeful!”

Dr. Kathye Jenkins

Dr. Kathye Jenkins, Abundant Grace Bible Church: “Behold Mama!  Love is a simple, but powerful word. We cannot care without love.

“For it was love when Jesus saw His mother as He hung on the cross and said to her, ‘Woman, behold your Son!’ Then, he looked at His most trusted disciple and said, ‘Behold your Mother!’  (John 19:25-27)

“As we go through our lives, behold Mama. When we have that extra something-something, behold Mama. When her health declines, she needs medication or groceries or incidentals, behold Mama. When you know you should take her to the store and other places she wants to go, behold Mama.  Don’t wait until the second Sunday in May to pay for flowers to leave for her at the cemetery when every day you can behold Mama.”

Rev. Rosalynn K. Btookins

Pastor Rosalynn K. Brookins, Walker Temple A.M.E. Church: “Mothers are nurturers and have the ability to put into children dreams and life and hope.  Years after they’re gone, we remember the encouraging words of our mothers.  Speak words to edify and lift up your children because as we plant these seeds and they began to take root as they soar into adulthood, they will always remember the words of wisdom mothers have given.”

 Pastor Sonja R. Dawson

Pastor Sonja R. Dawson, New Mount Calvary M.B. Church: “Mothers are always near, even those who are gone are never far away from our hearts. ‘Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.’ (John 19:25, NIV).

Sally PrescodSally Prescod, Transfiguration Catholic Church: “A mother creates life through her body and God blesses the creation with a soul. Just as God is with us for eternity, so is a mother's love and faithfulness. Happy Mother's Day!”
