After the surreal events that had unfolded just hours earlier, Clippers coach Doc Rivers spoke to the media for the first time since NBA Commissioner Adam Silver banned his team owner for life before his team took the court for Game 5 of its opening round playoff game against the visiting Golden state Warriors at Staples Center on Tuesday.

“I think Adam was fantastic,” Rivers said.

He said that his team was practicing while the monumental press conference was unfolding in New York.

“The players were practicing and didn’t see it.  It was good to let them know its some closure,” he explained.

“It doesn’t matter the wealth, you want to work for someone that you have their respect.

Rivers said that his players prepared for the decision as best they could.

“I do think this will be a safe haven. I think the crowd will be amazing tonight.

As for the penalty levied against team owner Donald Sterling, Rivers stated:

“A life ban is a life ban. I think that’s the right decision. It’s going to take some time (for a new owner to be named) and we all have to be patient.”

Asked if he was too exhausted after the events of the past three days, Rivers responded; “I am not too drained to coach today.”
