Pastor Cedric V. Alexander

Rev. Dr. Clyde Oden

Spirited worship and powerful preaching highlighted the Community Lenten Caravan service on March 5, at Price Chapel A.M.E. Church, 4000 West Slauson Avenue in Los Angeles.

Pastor Cedric V. Alexander and the Price Chapel congregation hosted the worship service on Ash Wednesday and the Rev. Dr. Clyde Oden of Bryant Temple A.M.E. Church delivered a dynamic message focused on the importance of Lenten season.

Also, Bishop T. Larry Kirkland, Sr., presiding prelate of the Fifth Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Church, along retired Bishop C. Garnett Henning marked a cross of ashes on the foreheads of worshippers.

“The Community Lenten Caravan services are being held at alternating locations each Wednesday to commemorate the Christian tradition of Lent that officially started on Ash Wednesday and ends on Resurrection Sunday.  The purpose of Lent is to experience prayer, penitence, almsgiving and self-denial,” said Pastor Alexander.

“We encourage the community to come out and share in our spirit-filled worship experiences with us.”

In addition to Price Chapel and Bryant Temple pastors, the other participating pastors and churches are the Rev. Dr. Allen Williams of First A.M.E.-Pasadena, the Rev. Darryl Walker of New Philadelphia A.M.E., the Rev. John Cager III of Second A.M.E., the Rev. Dr. Kelvin Calloway of Bethel A.M.E., and the Rev. Gregory McLeod of Brookins Community A.M.E.
