A salute to Pastor James and First Lady Evelyn Perkins begins with a Celebration Breakfast on Saturday, February 8, at 8 a.m., in the Rebecca Randle Fellowship Hall of True Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 7901 South Van Ness Avenue in Inglewood.
The four-day observance, sponsored by the Pastor’s Aide Committee, honors the 19 years of spiritual leadership rendered by Dr. and Mrs. Perkins. The theme is ‘Our Shepherd Laboring in Word and Doctrine’ based on I Timothy 5:17-18.
Mrs. Ross Dunn is president of the Pastor’s Aide Committee, Mrs. Dee Lincoln is the general chair and Ms. Rebecca Weston is the breakfast chair.
Family and Friends Day takes place on Sunday, February 9, at 8 a.m., with Elder Eugene Bryant and the members of New Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church as the guests. The 11 a.m. worship will feature the Rev. Christopher Grundy, associate minister of Antioch Church of God in Christ.
At 3 p.m., the guests will include the Rev. Dr. Marvis L. Davis and New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. S. ‘Scuffie’ Shigg and the Love Lifted Me Baptist Church and Pastor Auty Williams and the Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Church.
The salute continues on Friday, February 21, at 7 p.m., with an ‘Evening of Songs and Praise,’ headlined by singing ministers, groups and soloists.
To close out the celebration, three services are set for Sunday, February 23. The guests will be Pastor Chris Le Grande and Great Hope Missionary Baptist Church at 8 a.m., Dr. Henry Brown, assistant pastor of McCoy Memorial Baptist Church at 11 a.m., and Pastor Robert A. Williams, Jr. and McCoy Memorial and Great Hope Family of Faith at 3 p.m.
