Rev. Dr. Reginald A. Pope

Jesus spoke a parable in Luke 13:6-9 about a man who planted a fig tree in his vineyard and returned three successive years looking for fruit from that tree.

Finding none, his instruction to the keeper of the vineyard was to cut it down. His reasoning was, why allow this tree to continue using up this ground while producing nothing? That is to say, why let it continue being a consumer and not a producer?

There was his vineyard keeper who made a plea and a promise: ‘Let it alone one more year and allow me to dig around it and fertilize it. Then, if doesn't produce fruit, cut it down.’  The parable closes without saying whether the owner gave it another year or not.

The application is, the Lord expects more out of some of us than what we have produced over the past years. And we, some of the preachers of L.A., are both pleading and prodding.

Pleading with God to be gracious to our people and prodding our people to be more fruitful for the Lord in the years to come. (See Galatians 5:22-23).

May you be found fruitful.
