The World Stage Performance Gallery celebrates culture and community this holiday season with a Kwanzaa Jazz Festival Thursday, December 26th through Monday, December 30th, 2013. The festival will feature vendors and artists throughout Leimert Park as well as performances by renowned jazz greats inside the World Stage, located at 4344 Degnan Boulevard, Los Angeles CA 90008. Confirmed performers include Mark de Clive-Lowe , Terrace Martin, Michael Session, Dwight Trible with Justo Almario, Mark Maxwell, Carlos Nino, DJ Garth Trinidad, the Todd Simon Brass Band, and more!

The Kwanzaa Jazz Festival (KJF) was launched in 2012 to fill a gap in artistic programs for jazz lovers and families alike in Leimert Park during the Kwanzaa season. Leimert Park is a historic African American arts, commercial and cultural enclave in South Los Angeles. One of Leimert Park’s anchor institutions, The World Stage Performance Gallery houses weekly workshops for instrumental music, jazz orchestra, jazz performance, drumming, singing, and literary arts for children and adults. Workshops are $5, but community members are not turned away for lack of funds.

Founded in 1989 by the late world renowned master jazz drummer Billy Higgins and by poet and community arts activist Kamau Daáood, the World Stage was a pivotal force in the cultural renaissance which followed the 1992 Los Angeles Uprisings. Proceeds from this concert go towards the World Stage “Always There” fund and campaign, which is focusing on keeping the doors open to this cultural landmark and keeping the arts alive in South LA.

Admission for the festival is $15. For more information on the festival schedule, The World Stage, and how you can help with the “Always There” campaign, visit www.theworldstage.org.
