Chimezie Metu:  Lawndale

He was a great man.  What he did to break through barriers was very inspirational.

Dwan Hurt:  Coach - Serra

Unbelievable leader.  The magnitude of what he stood for was awesome. He will be remembered forever.

Ron Freeman:  Serra

I wish he was alive, and I wish I had met him. He made big impact on the world.  He taught me to be peaceful in bad situations.

Jason Richardson:  Serra

A great man who led the way.  It is hard to be that great after being jailed that long.  A real important inspiration to the black community.

Tavrion Dawson:  Serra

I read one of his books and was most impressed with how he stayed positive while being in prison.  He was a great person to have been in jail and make it out to become a great example for Blacks.  He fought a great fight and was well loved.

Kim Bly:  Teacher: Washington Prep

What he stood for will have a lifelong impact worldwide.  His steadfast commitment paved the way for where we are today.  Americans can be trivial, but we can learn that standing for something can propel you.

Ethan Thompson:  Bishop Montgomery

It is very sad that he passed away.  It’s a big loss to our community.

Marlon Morton:  Coach - Westchester

My wife is from South Africa.  Mandela is one of the three most influential people in the 20th century especially in terms of civil rights.  He is a man of the ages.  He and MLK are the greatest who ever fought for civil rights.
