With the arrival of the holiday shopping activities and Black Friday, Council President Herb Wesson has joined the LAPD in the launch of the “Lock It, Hide It, Keep It” campaign reminding community residents of the seasonal concern about burglary and theft from motor vehicles.

“According to the LAPD, the average cost of these crimes to victims is approximately $1,885.00, and that’s a lot of money.” said Wesson.  “These crimes of opportunity can be avoided by taking some simple precautions, and raising your sense of awareness”

The precautions are simple:

  • ·      Lock It: Lock your vehicle every time your leave it unattended and always lock your valuables in the trunk.
  • ·      Hide It: I you don’t have a trunk, hide valuables under the seats, in the glove box, or other compartments within the vehicle.
  • ·      Keep It: Personal responsibility is the best prevention to safeguard personal property

The campaign will be rolled out across the city in the coming weeks with billboards and public service announcements with the message that we can discourage these crimes by being willing to take the needed precautions.  In various parts of Los Angeles, officers will be standing on three-wheeled scooters known as “T-3’s” to patrol during the holiday shopping season.
