Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science hosts 3k and 5k Run/Walk and health fair for the whole family

On Saturday October 26, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, Saturday Science Academy II (SSAII) hosted a 3K and 5K run/walk and health fair.  Inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama’s campaign to end childhood obesity, “Let’s Move,” the day was filled with free interactive events devoted to healthy living.

“Exercise, healthy eating, and doctor’s visits are a necessary part of your daily routine,” said Lorraine Grey, SSAII Program Director at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. “We want people to realize that these vital steps can be fun. That’s what Let’s Move! at CDU is about.”

Dental and health screenings were offered at no cost. Physical fitness counselors demonstrated how people of all ages can stay active, including: basketball, soccer, martial arts, gymnastics, jump roping, dancing, and resistance training. Nutritionists counseled families on healthy food choices with free cooking classes.

Adai Lamar from KJLH Radio, 102.3FM served as the mistress of ceremonies for the event.
